Meet Evergreen

Meet Evergreen

August 19, 2019

Let me just be stark about this. You know what you don't want in common with a Sea Captain? Weathered skin. And scurvy, probably. Eat those lemons.

"Weathering" happens to everything. It's the law of the universe that all things naturally lean towards chaos and destruction. (It's called entropy, but let's not get too nerdy right now.)

What the heck is White Willow Bark?

November 03, 2012

I clean you goooood.

White Willow Bark, the namesake ingredient of our White Willow Bark Perfecting Tonic,  is a pretty amazing panacea of good stuff. (But that’s how we like all our ingredients, right?)

White Willow Bark (Salix alba) is exactly that. The bark of the White Willow tree. Ancient Egyptians (whose medicine cabinets must have looked awesome, what with their Aloe in there too) have been said to use white willow bark as a natural pain reliever since the 5th century BC!

3 reasons I adore Cocoa Butter

October 27, 2012

My cat checks out a chunk of Food of the Gods…he may or may not approve.

Cocoa butter…there’s simply nothing like it, to me. The texture, the scent, the way it starts off as a hard slab, and simply melts as it is pressed on skin. The chocolatey scent. Cocoa invites back rubs and long soaks in the tub. Oh, and did I mention the scent!?

One reason why I wanted to start a skincare company, and the reason I started experimenting with raw ingredients some years ago, is because I adore cocoa butter. I definitely love Shea as well, but cocoa is just such a silky indulgence, has a mouthwatering scent (that scent again!) and just feels so sexy, sensual and somehow naughty, that it’s the kind of thing you only want to use in private (or use with a good friend in private, which is way better.)

Aloe Vera

juicy!

I love Aloe Vera. Aloe Vera for skincare. Aloe Vera for the occasional refreshing (and laxative!) drink. Aloe Vera for home décor. Seriously, how can this juicy, spiky plant ever go wrong?

(Also, did you like my “Franglais” in the title? It’s a little talent Montrealers have. I know, you’re jealous.)

“Why does Shea butter/my GF balm get little granules in it sometimes?”

October 02, 2012

Shea butter, doing its thing.

Shea butter. It’s got a real personality of its own. You may never experience this, as it depends on  the season or the climate you live in, but grainy balm is a little fact of life when you deal with very natural products. I do what I can to control graininess, but keep in mind that the ingredients I use are so natural and unrefined, that they like to just do their own thing, whatever little talents mother nature gave them. In the case of Shea, it gets a little grainy at times.
